Welcome to the forum but sorry to hear that your UC symptoms are bothering you again.
UC is characterized by periods of remission (that is an absence of symptoms) and periods of flares (that is a return of symptoms). It sounds like you're flaring now, and we all do flare eventually despite following all of the rules and taking our daily meds as we should. When we flare inflammation builds up and it causes the symptoms you are describing: blood, mucus, 5/6 bms a day, etc. It's good to get a colonoscopy to quantify how far and how severe the inflammation currently is, and come up with an appropriate game plan for treating it based on what is seen. Expect additional medications and/or stronger dosages to be prescribed temporarily until your flare is under control and you re-enter a remission (when you need less meds).
A colonoscopy isn't all that bad. The prep is always the worst part by far (drinking like a gallon of yucky tasting liquid and pooping a lot to empty out). The actual colonoscopy we're under anesthesia, so you won't remember any of it.
It'll be fine, you're doing the right thing. Everybody eventually flares and a 4-year remission is quite good. Might as well catch this flare, get it behind you quickly, and get back into another 4-year or more remission.
Also, in flares it is rather common to have inconsistent poops, different numbers each day, worse some days than others, etc. Flares are anything but consistent on a day-to-day, or even bm-to-bm basis. Very common!
