Let's talk Uceris.

Currently on Entyvio infusion #3. Stopped taking my bridging medication after infusion #2 (I think that may've been too soon since Entyvio isn't exactly lightning-fast).

Since then, my symptoms have slowly crept back up. It started with a little achyness, then I saw bits of blood. I went to my doctor and she put me on hydrocortisone enemas. It improved the bleeding for sure. So once I came off of them, I began getting achier and achier and saw more blood, and now I have some pretty strong urgencies, and severely runny BM's.


I go about 6+ times a day and I have to PEE A LOT for some reason? I told her I feel that I'm undermedicated at the moment and that I need something to bridge me until I get deeper into Entyvio. She just called in a prescription of Uceris.

What have been your experiences? I'm HORRIFIED that the switch is going to flip and I'll suddenly be in 100% pain 100% of the time (happened last November/December when I became hospitalized for two months...)

- Also, just had an iron infusion due to the blood loss/anemia. That wasn't fun.

I think Uceris works if you are not flaring severely. I used it once after being on Prednisone, and that was helpful. Using it going into what turned out to be a more severe flare was useless.

Some doctors take a conservative approach and try Uceris before pred because it mainly just acts in the gut. The remission and response rates are not stellar. I took it in remission while I was trying to figure out if I was having a bad reaction to mesalamine. I felt great on it. Lots of energy and no flare ups of UC.

You're probably severe inflammation with that many movements a day. You can try but if you don't get results then go to stronger pred.

Uceris worked great for me. Was on it for two months, along with 6MP. Got out of my flare. Haven't had issues for the last couple of years now.

Uceris is a Budesonide steroid with a PH-based, delayed-release coating on it similar to lialda/apriso/asacol/pentasa making it a 90% topical steroid with few side effects and a lot less chance of withdrawal. Due to the coating, uceris comes in a fixed dose that cannot be cut or split. So there's no tapering. It's an 8-week course of Uceris and then you simply quit cold-turkey. You can always do every-other-day if it makes you feel better, but that's not at all necessary.
