This question probably belongs in the Anxiety forum but ... well this is my "home" forum so thought I'd ask here.

I have a pill cutter and use it to cut pills like gravol tabs, and I had a few 1 mg Ativan that lasted me nearly a decade (yeah I know they are expired by now but still work). I so rarely use Ativan, mainly for dentist appts. Anyway, I finally got a new prescription and just realized I was given .5 mg. They are TINY and round. Not sure I'll be able to use my pill cutter to cut them in half for when I want to take .25.

Could I take them to the pharmacy and ask them to cut them? Is that something they do? Or do I just need a better pill cutter? I struggle as it is with the bigger pills that come with a mark on them to guide you where to cut them.

Ive done it....but not well, lol. Is it sublingual because I think they are softer.
You could crush and take a half that way.

Ativan takes hours to have any effect....weird, but I'll stick with it for when I need. Why would you be using .25....as in what circumstances?

Pill cutters aren't the most accurate tools. If you have an exacto-knife or razor, you might be able to split a smaller pill more precisely. I did that with small Pred pills to half the dosage.

Quincy, they are not sublingual. I find they take about 20-30 minutes to take effect for me. I mostly take them when I go to the dentist. I have big anxiety issues with the dentist. Even for a cleaning my dentist wants me to take them, LOL. I am supposed to take .25 half an hour before the appointment and then .25 right before it starts.

Also, I thought I might try taking some in other non-dental situations when my anxiety gets really bad but since it'd be a new thing I wanted to take just .25 g and see how it affects me.

iPoop, maybe I'll get my husband to try cutting one in half with an Exacto knife, he has a steadier hand. If he crushes it to death, maybe I can scrape it up and still use it, LOL. If it doesn't work I'll just have to use one .5 mg pill.

Definitely use what's shattered if it leaves a half intact.
I would go the .5 before and .5 just before. If you're being driven, go for the least amount of anxiety and best result. Snooze on the way home...😉

Honestly, with smaller pills, I just break them between my thumb and index using my finger nail. It keeps them intact.

Okay thanks Q.

Wasps - these ones are too hard to break with a fingernail, but actually that's a good suggestion for things like my gravol pills.
