Hi I am new to this site and only my second year with colitis , I did start with pantasa but it gave me sores , so I came of all meds . Then almost to the year I have been in the worst flare up been 4 weeks then suddenly started being sick . Is this normal my tummy is so blouted and can not face food . I had a trip to the hospital who gave me anti sickness tablets . But I feel like a rabbit in headlights and desperately need some advice from others is this normal with a flare up . I am terrified of taking meds and steroids as the side effects sound horrible and I have a 3 and a half year old . I try to talk to my ibd nurse but they take a wile to get back and don’t do weekends. Hope there are some people to help me x

There are quite a few meds besides steroids that are options. While Pentasa did not work, please don't give up on all meds because one did not work. Your symptoms are very normal for a flare. What did they give you at the hpspital?

Hi...welcome. please explain further regarding the sores. Were you on oral or rectal Pentasa?

What is the extent location of your UC....throughout or limited to where?

They gave me ondansetron to help me stop being sick , the sores I got were blisters on my private parts , so the specialist took me of them , but out of all the meds they were the ones with least side effects . He has offered me the injection , the infusion one but they come with so many side effects . And I am usually a healthy person apart from uc . I was going to give pantasa another try and see if it happens again ,we was meant to be going away tomorrow so feeling sad that we can not go as I wasn’t sure if being sick with bile was normal and would hate to be in a strange place .ihave it in my colon at present my last colonoscopy was last oct . X

Was the pentasa rectal or oral?

Pentasa is not known to cause genital blisters, sounds like something else was going on that was unrelated to you taking that med...

UC is a chronic illness that the majority of us require medications to treat. Having the mindset that all medications will absolutely cause you side effects is going to make your journey with UC a whole lot more difficult than it needs to be. The majority of people take medications without side effects, especially medications like pentasa which are 90% topical anti-inflammatory medications.

Hi spoke to ibd nurse today am starting on enima pantasa on wed and also lactose, so fab ngers crssed on a real ad to recovery. Thank you for the info

They say that the sickness might be a backlog ? As after flare up before I have been constipated so they said try that ?😬
