Actually, you make an important point, and I’d like to add to it for those searching for info later on:
For those of us who present with constipation (I always have), preventing constipation makes a huge difference. When I am flaring, and become constipated and strain, that leads to involuntary straining, cramping, spasms, tenesmus, etc. It’s like it lights my whole system up (in a very bad way).
After my last episode about three weeks ago, I started drinking at least six glasses of liquid per day, and added one prune per day (like rocket fuel, haha!).
For sure, getting the inflammation under control stops the worst of the constipation, but when you are generally a constipated person, flaring and get *more* constipated, it’s important to be aware of that and get ahead of it, before having one of those horrible “I’m straining for hours” nights where you inflame everything further because you’re so constipated.
