I've just been diagnosed with IBD and will start taking Aprisio. The doctor said no alcohol and I am wondering if this is because of the script
or because of the condition. I'm not ready to drink right now for sure, but I am wondering how long this lasts. I'd like a beer or two once in awhile.

A beer or two once in a while is no biggie.
Alcohol is hard on the liver, and for some, it stimulates the gut.
Binge drinking should always be avoided regardless.
Welcome to the forum.....and while you're here, I'll suggest you push for rectal meds asap.

Everyone with UC responds differently to alcohol when imn a remission. I enjoy alcohol in moderation without issue, for others a glass is like a colonoscopy prep.
When flaring alcohol will irritate and inflame your intestine more and be a lot more evident.

For me, alcohol per se isn't an irritant. However, I would suggest staying away from acidic (think margaritas) or sugary (mojitos) drinks. Also, it'd be good if you keep hydrated.
cheers
