Hello all I recently posted about my digestive issues and colonoscopy results. colon showed no inflammation no sign of uc or chrohns my colon looked fine he took microscopic biopsies to check for microscopic colitis but he told me not to worry they will likely come back normal but im being a hypochondriac thinking the biopsies will find something I have a bunch of stomach noises all day every day (sometimes) a lot of gas and constipation I guess that’s better then having diarrhea though . It did make me feel better knowing my colon looked fine but I can’t 100% move on from this uc fear until my biopsies results are back my question is , is it still possible I can have UC or chrohns show up on the biopsies even though my colon showed no inflammation ? ( I have never had blood in stool during these digestive issues )but Like I said I’m being a huge hypochondriac My G I did not seem concerned at all he didn’t even ask me if I wanted to schedule a follow up date I had to call to make it

Yes, that is possible. If your IBD wasn't active and it's healed, and you don't have architectural changes from long-term inflammation, it is possible that you could have a clean scope. It's also possible that there could be something above where a colonoscopy reaches (Crohn's). Colonoscopies go in the colon, and sometimes a little bit above, but Crohn's can show up anywhere.

On the very, very positive side, it sounds like your GI felt like everything looked great, and says that you shouldn't be concerned. Do you have a family history or something? I never heard of this awful illness until I was diagnosed with it myself...

Considering you said you were having symptoms when you had the scope, and continue to, you likely would have had something visible to the doctor who did the scope (unless it was beyond). It could be IBS or symptoms from something you've been eating. I would explore some dietary restrictions and see if that helps. Do you take a probiotic? The other option might be stool tests. Ask for a calprotectin, that would check for inflammation in the stool. Might give clues to whether there's something going on - but from the information you've received thus far, it's not likely UC.

Nope no family history . Never Hurd of it either till I started having digestive issues. And I started googling never should have done that . I was having symptoms before the scope (Diarrhea,occasionally mucous in stool ,gas ,stomach noises stomach spasms no blood ) wouldn’t that mean it’s active if it is IBD ? Ugh sorry I’m freaking out

Now only symptoms are stomach noises , sometimes gas and constipation

It sounds like your dr is confident that you do not have UC, he is doing the prudent thing by waiting on the biospy report. You seem to be dealing with health anxiety. The internet is not a good place for someone with health anxiety. It can be a great tool if a person has a proper diagnosis for learning.

Gas, constipation and such are treatable by over the counter medications at a drug store. A pharmacist can help select what to to take to get relief. Work on getting your anxiety level down. If I were in your shoes, I would be doing a happy dance after my dr told me what yours did.

Sounds like it's just IBS or a poor diet. Do you have OCD? I have obsessive anxiety surrounding certain topics/issues and I only ask because I know what that is like.

You most likely do NOT have an UC as your scope was clear and you did not pass blood in your stools. Yes an IBD/UC currently in a remission would show up in biopsies, as would a microscopic-colitis but I'd put the odds of those things occurring at less than 1%, so we're talking highly-improbable. You're more likely in one day to see Elvis, get abducted by aliens, and win the lottery then have an UC diagnosis at this point.

I'd recommend you seek treatment for your health anxieties. The folks at the anxieties forum on healingwell are a great group of people who can offer you some suggestions. They gave me these resources to share with those here who are struggling:

No bother at all. When your biopsies come back inflammation-free, then they'll likely diagnose you with an Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
