Hi Friends -
A quick update:
So, background: UC for 35 years, minimal systems for the last decade. Odd cells started cropping up which led to every-6-month colonoscopies and some hormone tests to rule out certain cancers. All fine. In October my scoping showed an extreme stricture. Saw the surgeon for Step One of 2.
He removed the colon, etc and found cancer, which was found just under the surface of the colon and in 6 of 44 lymph nodes: Stage 3. Wow, am I glad I moved quickly on the "elective" surgery!

Anyway, so far CT scans have showed me clear, and I FINISHED turn turn chemo as of this morning! I see the surgeon in 2 weeks to examine the J pouch and set a date for take-down! I'll also have an "end of chemo" scan in about 3 weeks.

My general take is that the surgery has made life better, in terms of bathroom visits, but the chemo does wear on one. You all have been a wonderful support for years! Thanks. I hope you're well! That's exciting. I am so happy you're done with the chemo. Now it's time to get your life back!! You have always been such a great support to everyone here too. smile

I'm soooooooo relieved at the results of your last CT and that chemo is done. Hope the take-down goes smoothly...

Thanks mucho for updating us and congratulations on finishing chemo!!!!!!!!!!!!! You surely are due for a break from treatment regimens; I hope your surgeon presents a reasonable schedule for the pouch follow-ups so that you get quality rest in between procedures. And I agree with NSSG's comment that you've been a terrific help (+ an inspiration) to us on the forum, too. *** Since you asked: thankfully King Colon responds to its Rx med & gyn-onc follow-ups have gone well thus far (had my 2 1/2 yr post-surgery office visit in May) ; still need competent periodontal long-term care. At the end of this month the oral surgeon will assess my April bone-regraft at troublesome premolar site where implant had to be removed. Having done some recent I'net research on periodontitis, it seems to me that I ALREADY HAD IT in 2011, at the time of my 1st oral surgery/bone graft on that premolar where a cyst had developed above the root. But neither that oral surgeon nor my general dentist who referred me back then EVER told me that I have periodontitis!!!!! They may have underestimated my problem because I've done enough hygiene to avoid bleeding gums & pus pockets-- so receding gums are my only observable symptom, which is also a characteristic of aging. Of course I need to treat this cautiously due to the Rx antibiotics issue & may no longer tolerate implant placement. That latter point might be what the 2nd consulting periodontist was screaming about in March, but he did not say periodontitis, either! (Apology for long explanation!) *** Continuing best wishes & please keep us posted on your progress. / Old Hat (37 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)
