I am sorry you're so stressed. That story, of someone having cancer, is very rare. Even developing cancer is quite rare. It's higher for UCers than for the general population, but jumping to colectomy because of fear of cancer is definitely not a good idea. Colectomy is really only a good option when all else has failed. There are too many treatments, and too many variables to say what is the best option for you. Many people use enemas here and there and that keeps their UC 100% under control forever. You should get a diagnosis firstly, but also see someone about this health anxiety.

Surgery is not a first treatment for UC, rather it is the last. It's preferable to keep your large intestine when possible and use medicinal treatment to control your UC. Only 5% of us ever get a colorectal cancer, most do not. CRC risks do not statistically increase for us until 8-years after our initial diagnosis, and go up each decade.
