Is 2-4 bms a day normal while in a remission?

Hi , it’s been a long time since I posted . Hope you all are doing well turn just have a quick question, is it normal to poop sometimes 2 , sometimes 3 and sometimes 4 times in remission

Depends on your diet, really. My doctor always tells me that under 12 BM's a day is a healthy goal, as awful as that really sounds.

Do you have any extreme urgency? What's the texture like? Any pain/blood/mucus? If your only symptom is pooping a lot, I wouldn't be too worried.

Welcome back, it's been a while!

Everybody has a different normal, and there's always variability. If you are free of urgency, blood, and discomfort then I would say it is normal.

In a remission I have 1-bm a day without urgency, my average. However, I can have 2 or even 3 bms randomly and that's okay as random bad days. Maybe I ate something my body did not agree with. Maybe I had a couple shots of rum the night before, and now I am paying the price for my over indulgence hah.

What's your average? Any flare symptoms at all?

Some of us can have an IBS on top of UC. Some of us can have food intolerances on top of UC.

I know people without UC who go more than that, but I find for myself, I'd usually go once a day before UC. I think anywhere from 1-3x is normal, 4 is probably normal too, just on the high end. The # of times for me, isn't as important as the quality. If I am going more often, but it's quick, painless, formed, not repetitive, not urgent, no tenesmus or cramping, I'd try not to worry too much about it.

Hi , this is such an amazing community , it feels so reassuring that people I have never met , chip in with their advise minutes within posting here , a big thank you for that . My norm even before I got this disease was 3-4 times a day so I have always averaged 2-3 times a day . There is no urgency and they are pretty well formed and my doc did say I suffer from ibs type symptoms related to general anxiety which I suffer from daily . So maybe it’s that . I find whenever I step out I am fine but the minute I enter home I feel the urge to go so if It could be a mind gut connection . its Like my mind tells my colon I can poop now safely in the comfort of my own home . It’s rather silly I know .

What med schedule are you on?

For me, it wouldnt be.....i do 2 every morning. If I have a third, it would be food amount or change related. If it was consistent, it would mean something more than that.

Wasps.....12 bms a day isnt normal....digestive tract shouldnt be working in high gear or that fast in my opinion. It would mean peristalsis has no rhythm and in a state of hissy fits.

I am on 4.8 gm of generic lialda and generic rowasa Enema every night . My doc wants me to taper both but am terrified so I just continue on this med schedule . Apart from This I take prebiotics and frolic acid , calcium , fish oil , vitamin B and D supplements and something to help me sleep at night . Been on these meds and don’t want to rock the boat 😊 Though common sense and reading all you people’s posts makes me think I should take plunge and taper a bit the mesalmine oral and rectal

First i suggest you drop the fish oil.
No probiotics?

Are all your bms within one time period? Or throughout the day?

Sorry I do take both pre and probiotics , today was interesting . Just had two bowel movements , lol so like I said they vary from day to day averaging between 2 -4
Why is fish oil not good , would love to know

The time can be two in the space of an hour or one in the morn , one at noon and one at night or both in the morn all before noon , it’s a mixed bag . Keeps life interesting

That is usually my norm as well since getting UC, other than when I'm on prednisone, than I usually just have 1 BM.

Fish oil disagrees with some digestive tracts....plus, it can make stools more free moving and more slippery and help with constipation. Worth being off it for a week or more.

How is your food intake? When do you take prebiotic....Is it fibre?
