with either IC or UC the inflammation can be treated with anti-inflammatory med like Asacol. But for IC it is also important to eliminate the infection to get a cure.
some pathogens are antibiotic resistant, and getting the right ab for the pathogen is important. some pathogen, such as c.diff, respond well to FMT therapy.
your path report found no sign of UC, which would show crypt cell changes.
but to back up, you question seems to frame the idea that you migh have UC, and if you were treated for UC, you would get better. Unfortunately the problem with this is that Asacol is the first-line treatment for us. The only other UC-type treatment that might be added at this point is rectal anti-inflammatory meds which are Asacol in an enema.
without blood, D, or urgency, this sounds more like IBD than IBD or infection. The burn is puzzling. since there was some inflammation seen by pathology, and no sign of UC changes to cells, IC is a reasonable diagnosis. The only think odd is not doing another course of ab to combat the resurgent infection.
There is a remote chance that you do have UC causing the inflammation, but you are so early in the disease that no signs of chronic inflammation are yet visible. I think this is unlikely - but if it is, taking Asacol is the recommended treatment. It can take weeks to start working (for some people) and In my case took many months to give a remission.
If another scope in 6mo or a year shows chronic inflammation, something stronger then Asacol could be used. When anti-inflammatories alone do not work, some type of immune-modulation is used. Drugs to mess with the immune system are always best avoided if possible.
I would continue to take the Asacol, but also press for testing to identify the pathogen and/or further an to get rid of infection.
good luck
Thanks a lot I appreciate it, I dont think its in the early stages, I had similar symptoms 1 year ago but they went away with Flagyl antobiotic after 4 days, so I think what you said about
pathogens becoming resistant does really make sense, I asked my doctor if its possible the disease is in its earlier stage he insisted it wouldve showed up. I appreciate your answer thanks for the help! I WISH you the best.
