(knock on wood because I don't want to jinx myself)
For the past few months I have been keeping my body in a state of ketosis since I needed to drop some weight. My consumption of carbs dropped drastically from probably 250+ grams a day to less than 25.
Coincidentally, I've noticed that my UC seems to be further relieved. I mean it's still there and I'm still taking the meds, but either the inflammation is less or the lack of "filler" in my diet has made BMs incredibly easy and quick.
Initially, it was quite odd because I was not used to it, and my mind kept telling me that I needed so spend more time on the toilet. However, one day I came to realize that a single morning BM seems to be it. There are occasional days where I'll have another BM mid day if I eat too much oil or fat, though.
Another benefit is that, my ability to "hold it in" seems to have improved. I had to go on a business trip for a few days, and typically the stress of travel has me going quite often. However, during this trip, I actually thought I was constipated because I just wasn't going at all some days. It just turned out that my body didn't really need to go, and my mind was playing tricks on me since I wasn't doing the usual routine.
I find it all very odd because I was so sure that eating mostly meat and greens would have made it more difficult to handle UC. My theory for the longest time was that rice/pasta/etc acted like a "binder" to make it easier to pass, but apparently this isn't the case (at least for me), and the effect it turns out is quite the opposite.
Anyway, I know that we all have our own strategies for dealing with UC, but I wanted to share a success story in case anyone else is looking to try something out.
