Has anyone here had CMV sprout due to your flare?

Hey guys! I have a quick question here.

When I had my first flare and spent a significant time in the hospital, it seems as though Prednisone caused my CMV to come out and wreak havoc. I didn't know I had CMV at ALL until this incident.

But I hear it's something that can cause you to go permanently blind, as well as cause liver damage. The infectious disease department was able to make the CMV calm down and go back into hiding, luckily. This was in February.

Mind you, I currently have a sinus infection which is really causing some painful swelling on the left side of my face, so I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it. But my vision seems odd. I'm normally able to read things that are about 5-6 feet in front of me (small text) but I'm having some fuzzy vision which I am not used to.

I recall that one of the first things they did when they found my CMV going crazy, was send a doctor in to examine my retinas and give me a vision test....

Could the CMV have possibly come back out?

My understanding of CMV is that if you carry it it can reactivate at any time. I carry markers but as far as I know it's never reactivated during a flare .. not even the worst flare when I was first diagnosed (they checked the biopsies). I think I had CMV with a mononucleosis type of illness in the early 90s that tested negative for everything and when they finally tested for CMV it showed up as inactive (I was starting to feel better by then).

When I researched CMV it said that a majority of people carry the virus though it only affects a minority with major symptoms. If you are worried that you may be having a CMV activation you should ask your dr for tests to find out for sure. Can be extremely dangerous for UC patients.
