Hi All,

I'm new here although admittedly have been reading/searching the forum for a bit. I was diagnosed with UC in October 2017. I have been on Entocort, Prednisone, and Lialda and recently my doctor and I started talking about biologics.

The original plan was to move to Entyvio but the insurance denied that, so now we're trying Humira. I know it's the right thing to do but am admittedly nervous about it and am looking for others experiences with the med. It sounds silly, but I've never been good with needles and am worried about learning to give myself the shots. The loading dose apt of 4 shots makes me nervous as well as learning how to do this for myself.

Has anyone had good experience with this med? Mostly I'm looking to hear others' experiences to calm my nerves a bit.

Welcome to the forum. Many have used Humira here over the years and have had good luck with it. You use a humira-pen that conceals the needle, so it's less intimidating. The nurse will show you how to do the injections, and make sure you are comfortable with it. Generally, you want to inject into an area that has a bit of fat in it (going into muscle tissue is less comfortable). So, look for a meaty-area with a bit of fat store (assuming your UC flare hasn't taken it all away). You can ice the area before the shot which helps some.
