Hi and welcome! I totally get your concerns about Humira; I too was nervous at first. (The injection part is what worried me the most!) When you think about it, every medicine out there as some sort scary (Scary probably isn't the right word, let's call it "interesting" )side effect.
Your doc sounds a lot like mine, wanting to treat the disease as aggressive as possible. I'm 35 and have been on Humira for about 4 years now so yeah, I started at relatively young age. Although I still get a flare here and there, I definitely feel Humira has helped me some. Not complete remission, but it drastically has improved my quality of life which I am sure all of us here would agree is high up on our lists.
Pre humira days, I would avoid any social interactions in fear I would get one of those "uh oh gotta go" moments. Now, I go out without a care in the world.
I say go for it, but if you really feel concerned, there are other alternatives out there such as rectal meds (If you currently are not them) that might help depending on where the inflammation is.
Good luck! And let us know if you have any other questions (or just need to vent) - the people here are amazing!
