Well, my good NC Blue Cross insurance switched to CVS as our pharmaceutical manager. SO, after taking Asacol, Delzocol (sp) and as of last year, mesalamine, my insurance will no longer pay for my mesalamine. They approved Lialda. Insurance is wonderful to have, but it amazes me that they can dictate which drugs your doctor can prescribe, for the insurance company to pay. Oh well.....THIS is our new government run medical world for now.
they generally dictate brand - not drug. For example Lialda is the same drug as all the others you mentioned.
this has nothing to do with anything about
"new" or "government run". you sound very confused. we would be better of with some sort of government run single payer system.
we have private payer, and they dictate which brand they will pay, and in some cases stipulate another class of med has to be tried first - but only to get their repayment. they don't dictate what you doc has to prescribe, just which prescribed ones they pay for. you are free to buy a policy that covers whatever you doc provides - but it will be pricey.
too bad there is not some new government run kind of universal coverage.
