interesting, but early days. sometimes these press releases get ahead of the science.

5-mer peptides are more of a chemical than a drug. they bind to smaller regions of proteins and can be more target specific. IL17 in the immune system is one of the places it can bind, so it can block inflammation.

this announcement is more akin to early announcements of biologics, a new class of molecules that had promising application to immune mediated disease.

the notion is that a drug could be developed that blocks harmful inflammation, and that might remove some morbidity. In other cases, the removal of the inflammation would allow "the real causes" of the pathology to be corrected. But for each disease, further work would need to identify "the real causes" and make treatments to address them.

it seems to hold out the promise of new more targeted anti-inflammatory class of drugs. a few years to see if chemical can be made into drug. then several years to see if drugs can go through phases I, II, and III for specific diseases.

it is important news - but the press offices and reporters want catchy stories, so they add a little oversimplification and hype.

Lots of hype as DB says but I am encouraged by the amount of research going into inflammatory diseases.

Could you post the user testimonials you have found on forums for other autoimmune diseases?

It's not an FDA approved treatment/drug so a Dr. who is "prescribing/recommending" it could get in trouble. The supplier is out of Europe where most peptide therapy is prevalent. They have to remain anonymous because they are selling something with "medical claims" that is not FDA approved. I don't know if they have a UC specific one, but I do believe they have some peptide groupings that universally help autoimmune diseases and do have a few disease specific peptide assemblies . I doubt it would be anymore effective than biologics though as they are both acting in similar manners, but if they can make disease specific peptide assemblies that target the entire inflammatory process for UC then in theory it should be better. Here are a few testimonials found in these forums. I haven't found any UC testimonials but I haven't looked that hard either.

Contact those running the study, no idea if they have a compassionate-use case or not. It's undergoing research, so you cannot get it locally and your doctor cannot prescribe it for you. Just so you know, anything that's this early into research isn't proven or guaranteed to work at all. Some initial promise, but needs to be validated through a lot more research (double-blind placebo studies, validated by peers, study larger groups, etc etc) and that can take years.
