Disability

Looking for opinions on getting disability with the following afflictions. Male 54, I have had to quit work since Nov, was a newer job forklift operator with manual duties

Year diagnosed

77 General Anxiety Disorder 40mg fluoxetine, Abilify 5 mg, Venlafaxine 75mg, 2mg klonopin

99 Ulcerative Colitis pancolitis and proctitis and a skin rash that occurs with it, probably folliculitis
on arms, legs, back and scalp. Remicade infused every 8 weeks since March this year and
Betamethasone cream

14 Asthma, not related to allergies. Dulera 200 mg, albuterol inhaler and nebulizer

18 Sjögren's syndrome, dry eyes and a dry mouth

18 Type 2 second degree atrioventricular block, have pacemaker

18 Myasthenia gravis. muscle weakness arms,legs,back, trouble chewing and swallowing, double vision at
times both horizontal and vertical, balance issues

Hi Edsson, you can go to SSA.gov & check out the list of medical conditions. The website is user friendly & has a lot of helpful information. Keep in mind when applying for SSD, your drs must be behind you 500% & be willing to put it in writing that you are disabled from doing any type of employment. Looking at your list, I would start with the condition that prevents you from working first & list the other conditions as extras. They will look at your medical records & the medications you take for each condition.


Attys generally will not get involved unless the claim has been denied. So, the initial filing will be on you. Most important of all, never pay a lawyer up front to handle your case. They have a contingency Contract, meaning if they win your case the SSA withholds funds from your back pay. The lawyer has to file a Fee Petition to itemize all the work he/she did on the file. Make descriptive detailed explanations about your conditions, not only from a physical standpoint, but how it effects your daily living. Make copies of every paper you get from SSA, make a file just for that.


It can be difficult & lengthy to get approved. I read several years ago that over 80% of the claims are denied initially & have to go through the process of going before an Administrative Law Judge at a hearing. Good luck with whatever you decide.
