Generic Mesalamine ("Lialda") from Canada

I have seen posts about the Zydus (India) generic of Lialda and Shire's own generic version. But where do my tablets from Canada fit in? And are they equivalent?

One odd difference is that the tablet has no imprint unlike the usual S476 of Lialda. I ordered from HKL Health Supplies for delivery to the US and the box is labeled Mesacol OD, mesalamine Prolonged Release tablets 1.2 grams. It is manufactured in India by Sun; dispensed by LawrenceWalter Pharmacy, India. Any opinions about this product?

Symptoms have not changed, yet. I am taking an extra pill (3 per day) to see if that helps. Light nausea started along with the new Rx but I can't be sure of the cause. I am mixing in the new stuff with what Lialda I have left for now, before going 100% Canadian.

I would appreciate an alternative to HKL. Their operators speak heavily accented English that I can't understand (my problem) and will not communicate by email except for generic messages.

Thanks for checking iPoop! The oral mesalamine field is getting complicated and hard to evaluate. The unmarked pill is a bit flattened compared to Lialda and the coating does not come off with moisture. Does the coating make a difference? The cost savings is not huge with the Canada option. If I thought it was inferior I would go back to getting the stuff from the US, but now insurance will generally only cover a generic, possibly from India too. If the patient is getting a generic from India, the why not generic from India by way of Canada? The Forum feedback seems mixed. Do you see a trend in brand versus generic in how it helps?
