My butt hurts

Thanks so much! Pain is definitely eased today. I'm flaring so pooping isn't an issue, there isn't a speck of formed stool and hasn't been for weeks. I'm looking forward to continued pain relief and hot baths :-D

I changed GIs recently and when we were discussing treatment options, I said to her, "I believe in 'treat from both ends'" illustrating with my fingers waving in the air and pointing at each other -- I quote you CONSTANTLY.

One of the reasons I wanted the hemorrhoids removed is that they were making any kind of rectal treatment uncomfortable, well, frankly, day to day life was uncomfortable. My butt doc warned me that it's a long healing process and that there are no guarantees that this will be anything like a permanent solution, but I'm willing to give it a whirl. Particularly given that my first podiatrist, back in about '92, told me that removing planter's warts from my feet wasn't a permanent solution, yet they've never come back.

I'm not bleeding, which is insane, I can't figure out what to think when I have every other symptom, and had a bad accident in the workplace bathroom (LUCKILY it was after everyone else had left the office so I had plenty of time to clean up myself and my surroundings), but no bleeding. But zero solid stool -- colonoscopy prep was not much different from everyday life for me.

So yeah, I'll return to rectal meds as soon as I heal up. I learned that mesalamine suppositories during the day and corticosteroid enemas at night seem to help. My new GI is trying to get a Uceris (budesonide) prescription authorized by my insurance company because I really truly don't want to resort to prednisone again if I can possible help it.

Susie, thanks so much. As Uniform Charlie predicted, the pain is much much better today. Also, I appear to have stopped bleeding, pretty much completely, so I'm more at ease.

I am on probiotics -- one of the reasons I immediately liked this new doc is that when she said that the inflammation is a lot worse than my last colonoscopy, she said, "what's going on?" and I said, "well, I just finished a round of antibiotics for bronchitis, and I've got a lot of work stress." Her FIRST reaction was, "If you're not on probiotics for the antibiotic issue, you should be." My first GI said that there wasn't a lot of evidence for the efficacy of probiotics. It made me so happy to realize I now have a doctor who thinks like me.
