Do you use Pepto Bismol?

Do you guys take anything for stomach cramps like Pepto? I had been feeling run down all last week and was wondering what was going on. Seems I am starting to flare up again. My worst symptom at the moment is a constant, dull stomach ache. Makes it tough to sleep. I've added rowasa to my normal oral 5 ASA.

I would never use it because it has aluminium.

Are you on PPI meds?

You have to sus out if you have a motility issue, an acid issue, or a referred pain issue. Only take OTC med for the right cause. Also address the flare and not just symptoms.

The only OTC I ever used was occasional Imodium Plus (also gas relief) when I had some D.

Yes I use generic Pepto, only when gut is pitching a fit, it settles my stomach. For cramps I use 10 mg dicyclomine (Bentyl). Sometimes instead of Pepto I'll mix a glass of clay/water, I have about 3 kinds of powdered clay, white, red and green. But clay can interfere with med absorption so be aware of that.

I've been using Pepto about 15 years, not often, but it is always in my cabinet.

Out of curiosity, what is your concern with the aluminum present in Pepto?

Thank you for the replies. Interesting about the clay...I may add that to my medicine cabinet.

I don't think I've updated my signature in a while. I take generic lialda, rowasa, OTC pepcid for reflux, occasional prescription nasal spray...forget what its even called. I was just wondering if pepto would be harmful if used on occasion. I would say I have some minor inflammation going on. In the past, I have gone several weeks with this type of pain. It usually causes minor constipation that can progress to tenesmus and rectal inflammation if not addressed. Only when my inflammation is really bad do I get diarrhea.

Hopefully the rowasa helps.

Beave....aluminum is a metal that tends to stay in the body and has caused for some ....bone loss, neurological issues, cognitive issues, etc. It was in so many products years ago and proven that it can cause issues.
But, it is said that it is safe in low and not continual use. Personal decision. Pepto is salicylate so those properties serve an amazing purpose unless one is sensitive to it.

Reflux.....there are other products that help...baking soda for one, acid reducers, PPIs. But flaring, and especially limited rectal inflammation and constipation can cause spasming throughout the digestive tract and create pain and discomfort.
Dicyclomine also is an acid reducer and soothes spasming.
