Hi all. Infrequent poster but regular reader

I posted about my husband a long time ago. He had pancolitis in Nov 2013. Doc said it was the worst he had seen in his 30 yrs of doing colonoscopies. After a week in the hospital he went on maintenance Asacol and then generic mesalamine. Other than having trouble holding it for too long it has been like he was perfectly healed. We know it is a lifetime disease though and he takes his meds regularly.

He had a check up colonoscopy in Oct. As soon as he started producing stools there was some slight blood. It has never stopped. Bright red but not copious amounts. He had a dr appt. yesterday and the dr said it was just coincidence it started right after the procedure. Prescribed some flagyl and a low dose prednisone. He still only goes once every day or so and has a normal formed stool each time. No cramping, no mucus. Anyone here ever had a flare that everything was normal but there was a small amount of blood on the tp with each stool?

I am halfway convinced when the doc took 2 pseudo polyps to test (they were fine) he left an irritated spot in the colon or something.

It's normal to have your system upset for 3-4 days following a colonoscopy as that procedure and prep are super invasive. However, he should settle down to his normal thereafter.

Some have flared after colonoscopies before. Low odds but can happen.

I'd watch it and make sure it is an established trend. The mesalamines can often be boosted from maintenance dosages (2.4 grams a day) to flare dosages (4.8 grams a day) as a reasonable, do-no-harm precaution. Simularly, Rectal-route mesalamines can be added back in daily, if not being used at that interval.
