Mesalamine Enema Experience

The weird thing is, is that my stool changes all the time no matter what I do, so I probably wouldn't even notice that much. I can have all the top 4 types on the Bristol chart in one BM. To me what's more important is getting rid of the problematic symptoms, like gas (especially smelly), cramping, bloody mucous, extra BMs, urgency, etc.

I'm also doing mesalazine enemas (foam) but recently they've been giving me a lot more cramping pain and I don't know why?
Quincy can straining and feeling like it hasn't all come out be a sign of rectal inflammation too?

I would not worry if your stool is slightly worse the next day, I would stay the course for 4-weeks and see where you stand and then reassess.

If you had an intolerance/allergy to the sulfite or mesalamine it would result in what's described as a "dramatic worsening" of your UC symptoms. It'd be like going from 1-2 formed and non-urgent bms a day to suddenly 6-8 very loose and urgent bms a day; very dramatic indeed!

Overall, my bms are slightly looser and more urgent when taking the enemas. The first bm is also tan to sometimes white in color due to the enema. The absorption of liquid is never 100%, so that affects firmness and urgency (remaining liquid loosens and increases urgency).

I guess my question, asked more directly is, should I be concerned that the Mesalamine enema seems to slightly worsen my stools the next day, even when I am able to hold the enema for 24 hours.

What does a negative sulfa reaction look like, is it subtle or very obvious?

If you had a negative sulfa reaction, you wouldnt be able to hold an enema for 24 hours.
Worsen stools in what way?
