Big Day today! A year ago today I had my first step surgery (one of three). Since then, It's been a rough year of recoveries and adjustments but now 5 months post takedown, I can truly say life is getting really close to my pre-UC days. Tonight we are celebrating my new birthday and tomorrow, I think I'll go skiing!
Just wanted to post to those going through surgery process now or facing it in the near future, to take a deep breath, what you are dealing with now it super tough, but life does get better!

I'd love to hear your opinions and experiences of having a J-pouch. A lot of the experiences of the J-pouch that I read online are quite negative, but that could well be because dissatisfied people tend to express their dissatisfaction more than someone who isn't.

Thanks everyone! This forum has been a great resource for me. I really appreciate the educated, and positive tone of the conversations here. Keep up the great work!
To Mrssmith687 - I'm happy to share my experiences with living with a J-Pouch but being the club less then 5 months, I'm fairly limited on what I can talk about
. There are other veteran J-Pouchers that can probably give you a lot more insight. If you were to google "J-Pouch success stories" you would find a ton of positive experiences. Here are a couple of my favorites:
http://fyouuc.blogspot.com/
https://www.ihaveuc.com/the-journey-to-a-completed-j-pouch/
I also was very inspired by Darren Fletcher (Pro soccer player in the UK) He had the J-Pouch surgery and continued to play professional soccer. Yes there are a lot of doomsday J-Pouch stories out there and everyone will have their own experience but, the reality is most of time, the surgeries work and you can go on having an awesome life. That's my plan anyway!

One of the main reasons that I stay around is to share my experience with chronic pouchitis. It’s one of the things that UC’ers fear when they go into surgery.
My life is much better now with pouchitis than what it was with UC. There’s no comparison, I have no urgency and I can eat whatever I want (I stay away from spicy foods because they burn). I never wake up at night to go to the bathroom, I go 3 times a day on a very regular schedule.
I do have to treat my pouch with medication but it’s going really well. I’m using stelara for almost 3 years now. My GI scoped me the other day and said that I had one of the best looking pouhes he’s seen under a scope (he’s an IBD specialist).

3timechamp to answer your question ..
I would love to write all is well.... but it isn’t . Still on the antibiotics and they don’t seem to be helping . Literally just tired of feeling like this . I am happy all you guys are doing well but I often wonder why couldn’t I be one of the ones that felt great after all the surgeries. I just had two bathroom trips in the last hour and the pain is unbearable . I am on my side right now knowing another trip is on its way .
Still going on a average of 15 times a day if not more the pressure started back about
a week ago . The urgencies are getting closer to an accident happening .
Because I went back on the Flagyl I am still experiencing the heart flutters or palpitations thought it might have been the cipro but guessing it may have been both drugs that can caused it .
Going to stop tomorrow it’s been 3 weeks on just the flagy and I am still the same.
Will talk to my specialist about
the fecal transplant. Going to my family doctor tomorrow I want to wear an monitor so they can see the heart palpitations.. something I never had before two months ago when I started all these meds. . I am back to no quality of life and frankly I am sick of it . Plus there is only so much my boyfriend can take of my sleepless nights.
Also 3 days last week I had pure liquid diarrhea all day long , I know I was dehydrated a few times because of the dizzy spells. What’s weird is they were liquid one day then just soft the next and back to liquid the next day.
Now one day I did have Chinese food , a piece of my birthday cake and while I am being honest I had two glasses of wine . So that was my fault I understand the diarrhea later that night but two days later I don’t understand that day. I drank on average 2 Gatorades a day plus countless glasses of water just to try to keep up with the lose of water.
Sorry about
writing a book on my aftermath ... I am truly happy the others on here are not experiencing any of these issues because frankly the surgeon sold me on once again enjoying life . Hoping I will get there one day soon so I can write an amazing response to someone asking about
the pros of getting the surgery . Till then it’s one day at a time .

Valli,
I’d ask about
Entocort instead of a 2nd antibiotic. If you’re having problem from the antibiotics then I’d ask about
Xifaxan to add with Entocort. It is non systemic, in fact, both are non systemic. So fewer side effects.

Valli,
Are you using rectals? I didn't see them mentioned in your post. I would use them twice a day if you could get the script
.

No I stopped using the rectals a few weeks ago . I can certainly try again .
This is what I don’t understand the last 3 days have been terrible pressure , spasms in the bum , and going all day long . I went yesterday 4 times in one hour not to mention the rest of the day . The funny thing is this morning I feel great not awesome but almost like a normal person and for the first time in a long time I only went to the bathroom twice last night and neither one produced those painful spasms which would grip me for 10 mins afterwards . My question is how can I feel ok today not complaining loving it actually just very confused as to how can I feel normal.
Plus yesterday I didn’t have anything red only 4 small vegan spring rolls for lunch and early evening I had 4 BM and there was blood on the stool which was formed something I rarely have seen in a long time. Just confused

Who knows? I wouldn’t try to interpret anything from one day but over many days, weeks or months.
I’d guess if you’re seeing blood then it is from the rectal cuff area and that you should be using rectals. Pain and blood is from the rectal cuff area.
The pressure, more discomfort, non absorbsion is from the inflammation in the pouch.
