I've been on Lialda for 7 years, no issues. Increased my dose to 4 pills per day 2 months ago due to ongoing flare and just yesterday started having very loud ringing in my left ear, lightheaded and have been dealing with headaches.

Seems odd that Lialda side effects would come on after being on it so long. How do I figure out what is going on? Can't skip a dose of Lialda, causes instantaneous flare up when I delay a dose by several hours. My flare symptoms are largely controlled right now (1-2BM's per day, somewhat formed).

My son has been on 4 tablets per day for a few years and has the exact same symptoms. When I reported the ringing and lightheadedness to the dr they had him see a specialized ophthalmologist (one who is very familiar with IBD) to check his eyes and see if there were signs of intracranial pressure (which can happen with IBD patients--not sure if from the disease or from the meds). The opthamalogist said he was fine and so he just lives with the symptoms--but he attributes them to the Lialda.

I'd have your family doctor check him over for ear infections or other things that might explain those symptoms as that's a more likely explaination. I doubt it is from lialda. However, if you are worried/convinced it is the lialda, then ask about switching to another medicine like Delzicol/apriso/pentasa to see if it resolves it or not.

I would also be surprised if it's from the lialda, if nothing else because of the 2 month time lag between increasing the dose and onset of complaints. It could be a migrainey type of thing. Would definitely check it out with a GP. I am a bit of a hypochondriac so my GP is used to me regularly turning up with a simple complaint and some dire diagnosis which i found on google. But i always feel better getting her to check it out and help me find out what it is.
