Uceris / Cortifoam Question

Hello!

1) Has anyone been able to order Cortifoam recently? Still can’t find it here.

2) I’m on Entyvio (month 7, infusions every 4 wks) and still in a mild flare. We are going to try adding a foam to “get me over the hump” before switching meds again. So:

3) I have a package of Uceris foam sitting on my counter right now but afraid to start it - prednisone was SO BAD for me last time.

How does Uceris foam compare to Cortifoam in terms of side effects - and how quickly you become dependent? I’m so scared to get back on the steroid merry go round, though Cortifoam (which I can’t find anywhere) never bothered me much.

Inflammation is “only” 6-10 cm or so, so GI agrees enemas are probably overkill. I cannot tolerate mesalamines, which is why we’re going straight to steroids.

Thoughts?

Sorry to hear you are struggling. Know that any rectal-route steroid is 90% topical and only about 10% systematic. Whereas pred is 100% systematic. All of those nasty side effects are a result of that systematic component. So, taking Uceris foam, Cortifoam, or steroid suppositories are all pretty much the same on side effects. Which is to say many do not have side effects, and those who do experience very mild side effects (like mild irritability, etc).

Don't worry, you cannot become dependent, as in addicted, to a steroid. Steroid-dependence, means without the aid of the steroid you flare up again (meaning you need stronger maintenance meds before discontinuing a steroid).
