In recent weeks I seem to produce floating stools which are somewhat narrow. I know that floating stools are associated with fatty food. Aside from this are floating stools anyway linked to colonic inflammation?

Floating stool has more to do with diet then anything else. Narrow stools can also mean rectal inflammation btw.

Floaters can be caused also from gas, most times depending on diet intake. Are you having lots of gas as well?

If you don't have any change in diet, supplements, etc...you're likely in a mild flare limited in the rectum.

How many times a day are you going? Any rectal discomfort? What meds?

No change in diet. CRP of 1 and negligible ESR. Only going once a day. I've noticed mild joint issues during this 'floater' phase which has lasted 3-4 months now. But with CRP and ESR low and no blood or mucus my docs just dismiss the idea of a flare being present for me.

As long as the stools are a normal shape, I think floaters are a good sign. It means that fermentation is happening in the bowel and air from that is getting trapped in the stool.

If your stools are narrow then it means rectal inflammation or scarring.
