Consistent elevated platelet count

Hi guys,

For those even in remission, do you find that when doing regular labs your platelet counts are a little elevated? I’m in my 20’s and relatively healthy with minimal flares so I found this odd. My platelets have never been over 500 but it’s consistently over 450 like the 475-490 range over the past few years. There’s been a few times where it’s been normal in between. My doctor said it’s probably because of my UC, but I haven’t had a real flare in years. So is it just because I have this autoimmune disease my labs are going to be off? My hematocrit has been very slightly elevated too. It’s the weekend now but I messaged her. I know she’s probably just going to say she can refer me to hematology if I feel the need to but any thoughts/experiences?

A mildly high platelet count is possible with IBD.

Your numbers don't seem that high. Better a few extra platelets than too few. The important thing is if they are effective and working to control bleeding. Are there tests for platelet function?
