I am about ready for surgery. I just wish it was more of an actual cure instead of "you're still going to poop 6-10 times a day and you might have chronic pouchitis." I would just about die if I had the surgery and still had to be on these biologic meds.
Surgery is not perfect but one thing about
life after surgery is: you don't worry about
treatments or UC. Sure, you go more than normal people, but you are no longer tied to drugs and insurance. I don't like going more often. On the other hand, I used to spend tons of time at home sick - I don't anymore. Not just that, I also don't spend any time worrying about
when my next flare-up is coming, or whether my meds are working, or whether they will work forever, what's next, what if I lose my insurance, how will I pay for this, getting older with chronic illness and the expense... My life has done a 180. I am always out and about
. It's certainly not perfect, and not everyone has the same result, but for me, there have been some advantages. If I could go once a day and not take drugs, sure, that would be a dream, but that was never going to happen.
