Hi guys!

I was flaring from mid November. 2 months ago after flexo sigmoidoscopy my GI put me on budesonide oral, increased Asacol to max 4.8gr and Rowasa enema nightly.

It’s been 2 weeks I don’t see any blood or mucus, which were my main symptoms. He stopped budesonide (after 2 months of taking it) and said to keep Asacol at 4.8 gr but reduce Rowasa to every other night.
Does it sound like a good plan?

Also I still have fear that once I dropped budesonide the blood would return (I really hope not). It’s just mental... not a good attitude, I know. Trying to calm down.
So my question is how long from your experience I should hold territory with no blood to know that I am out of the woods.

It sounds like a pretty good plan to me. You could also keep the Rowasa at every night for a while (2-3 weeks) if you wanted to change one thing at a time. So you've only not had blood for 2 weeks? Or am I misunderstanding?

Personally, when I stopped my budesonide, I had symptoms again within a week. So you would probably know fairly quickly.

When did you stop the budesonide?

You've been on nightly enemas since November? And what were your symptoms?

How many times bms now and what consistency?

If you just stopped the budesonide, I would stay on the enemas nightly at least another 2 weeks. If all is good, go to every second night for at least a month or more....

Sara, yes, you got it right. No blood for 2 weeks.

Quincy - I am consistently on Rowasa nightly for 2 months now (from end of December till present).
My symptoms were blood, bloody mucus, wet farts, excessive gases. No cramps, urgency...
Now I have 3-4 bm all in the morning, which seems normal for me (never had 1 or 2). Consistency formed or soft formed, but no diarrhea.
I am off budesonide for 4 days now.

I also take 1 packet of Visbiome for probiotic

Good luck, keep us posted, and do not be afraid to go slower and more cautiously during tapers. If a taper goes bad, increase the dosage again.
