fever after salofalk enema

Seems people from the Polish uc forum have discovered (thanks to me) how good healingwell is and those who don't speak English keep flooding me with requests to ask questions on their behalf.
So the question from Jola:
She's been on Asamax and salofalk enemas for many years (mild colitis). This time, while flaring, she's been experiencing a strange reaction to salofalk enemas. Several hours after administering it, she feels she has fever (no shivers) and one time she had strong migraine. The fever disappears after several hours and she wakes up feeling normally. This sensation has happened several times already and she wonders if it is possible to become allergic to salofalk after almost ten years of using it regularly. She still can take asamax without any problems. Has any of you experienced something similar? Do you think it's time to switch to cortifoam enemas (she's never taken them)? Do cortifoam enemas produce the same side effects as prednisone?

Sounds like a sulfite allergy? Does this person have a known sulfite allergy? The mesalamine enemas contain sulfite as a preservative. The mesalamine oral pills do not contain sulfites. There is a sulfite-free formulation of the enemas here in the USA called sfRowasa, not sure if it is available in your area. The mesalamine suppositories and rectal-foams shouldn't include the sulfite either, another option available.
