Hello All-
Curious if anyone has experienced allergic reaction to balsalazide (colazal) ? If so, what were your symptoms?
Thank you ...

Do you suspect you are having one? If so, what are your symptoms?
A mesalamine allergy/intolerance is described as a dramatic worsening of you UC symptoms, like before balsalazide going from 2-3 formed non-urgent bms a day to suddenly 6-8 all diarrhea and very urgent bms after taking balsalazide. If you've ever wondered why it says "might cause diarrhea" on your medicine bottle then this is why. Its medicine-induced, the medicine clears from your body within 48-hours of stopping it, and you'd get dramatically better in short-order if you did have that allergy. That's a simple test you can do if you suspect you have it. If confirmed talk to your gasteroenteroligist and request a non-mesalamine med. Mesalamine allergy/intolerance is pretty rare, less than 5% of us encounter it (while 95% do not).
