How to deal with temperature control at work

This is by no means a political post

I'm all for protecting against the virus. I'll be wearing a mask.

However before coming back to the office they want me to fill out a form confirming my body temperature. I currently have pouchitis and they may misinterpreted this as having the virus. I also feel uncomfortable having my temperature recorded and potentially held against me. I also don't want to pick a fight with HR. How should I view this?

Ask what they view as the span of a normal and elevated temperature.
We all have different normals...my mostly norm is 96.7F/36C
Do they know you have a J pouch?

Can your doctor write a letter confirming that your temperature may be elevated for a medical reason not related to covid19?

When I had hiring orientation I broke down bawling and crying because the health insurance plan they used to offer and my surgeon takes, was discontinued and I didn't know what to do because I was in between surgeries at that time. So I guess they know. They told me to talk to their health advocate but I was brushed off by them

I guess I could ask my GI for a letter. I'm afraid this will backfire. I live in a at will state and I don't want to lose my job.

I don't see how they could fire you over this as long as you are honest and have a letter from your doctor. If the fever meets a certain threshold they may require you to get tested for Covid before they allow you to work.

Could you telecommute?

Andrina, I would get my gi to write a letter to give to HR. If you don't record your temperature then for sure you are putting yourself at potential risk of being fired. The only way they would use it against you, is your failure to comply. My daughter works for the county, they are doing the same thing.

This is where I so strongly disagree and I feel like my privacy is deeply invaded.

Since it's an at will employment they can fire you for no reason. I've seen people let go for being sick too much but their reasoning was "we don't need your language support anymore" and turned around and hired another person who speaks the same language. I'm afraid that even a letter from my GI will not protect me.

I see it more as common courtesy or concern for others. I don’t think it’s about controlling you or invading your privacy—it’s about protecting the people you work with IF you should become infected.

I agree. Here in NYC when they start to open, we will have temperature checks too. The stock market already opened up and they have temperature checks before they enter the building. It's not about an invasion of privacy. We are dealing with a virus that effects everyone differently, should they get it. It's about protecting your employees and keeping them as safe as possible.

As a side note. Yesterday was my 1st pouchiversary and it was also the first day of no bowel movements.

I've had a bm today so no worries it's not a blockage. Just the antibiotics helping 😊
