Do you have tinnitus?

I'm just curious how many of us also suffer from tinnitus. I always thought it was from too much loud music (and that probably didn't help) but was surprised to find out it is linked to IBD/UC.

I sometimes get it. Assumed it was from using headphones too much. I also get it when I have a cold or am tired.

Yes, I have had Tinnitus for 5 years approximately. I am not sure whether it is connected to my UC. I had suspicion that 5ASAs are the culprit. I made an experiment. I stopped 5ASAs for two months. It did not notice any change in intensity of my Tinnitus. Currently I do not take any meds for treating it.

My observations:

What helps: physical activity, hot shower, low mental activity
What worsens it: lack of sleep, psychological stress, intensive thinking.

I've had it mildly since 1966ish...I have BPPV and injured my neck at that time so there is a probable correlation.
Aspirin definitely increases it...as does having colds/sinus issues and a BPPV attack.

5ASA has not increased it (which I've used for 31+ years).

I don’t have chronic tinnitus, but I get then occasional ring that lasts for a few hours especially if I forget to wear earplugs and I am sitting in front of percussion or brass. I’m a classical musician and hearing loss is obviously a major risk for folks in my field. Just glad I don’t sit near the piccolo! I have heard that 5asa’s can contribute to it, though. In teaching, I cover hearing loss prevention. It is amazing how damaging headphones/ear buds are to our hearing. I’m a big advocate for volume limiting head phones.

I’m about the same as Casey. I’ve had constant ringing for around 30 years. And UC only for the last 4 or so. I think most of my immediate family has/had it also so I think it’s hereditary. I remember going to dances every weekend in my teens and the speakers were huge and blaring and going home and my ears ringing all night.

Mesalamine is the trigger for my tinnitus. The more mesalamine I take, the worse it gets.

Interesting....I've been on mesalamine for over 20 years, and my tinnitus started 3 years ago. Clear as mud.
