Hi,

I recently had a flexi (sigmoidoscopy) done and in in the process of being diagnosed with either chrons or colitis. As well as digestive issues for several months, I’ve also had persistent air hunger/breathlessness (not Covid related). Could anyone tell me if this could be related to IBD/experienced similar?

Have you been bleeding a lot? When I was in a bad flare a few years ago I got severely anemic and would get out of breath just walking across a parking lot at my office. Once I had a blood transfusion and some iron transfusions I was ok

I second the possibility of it being anemia. I also experienced shortness of breath doing simple tasks when I was anemic.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the input. Spot on. I was anemic last year but after a few months of treatment my iron, hglobin and b12 are all now well within normal range but I still have this breathless feeling so I was wondering if it was related to something else?

Do make sure all the Iron parameters are within range - Iron Serum especially - not just your Hgb. Sometimes the iron stores get very low but Hgb might still show in range.

You need to be peoperly checked with pulminary testing and chest x-ray to totally rule out lung issues. The other culprit could be reflux.
Have you had an upper scope done as of yet? I'm hoping a full colonoscopy is your list of tests.
