Is this UC?

Doing well Quincy, thanks. No blood, just going once, marginally more urgency than normal but basically back to normal. Maybe there weren’t any ulcers at time of scope so not enough evidence to make a conclusive diagnosis. At least I’m on the books, so to speak. Will request copy of results.

Candoolili, in the UK I suspect that the diagnosis of proctitis means you have UC in the rectum. I haven't heard the gastros in the UK refer to it as 'ulcerative proctitis', but definitely ask for a follow up appointment, and get a full report including biopsy results. You can ask to see any photos taken as well.

As I said, NHS gastro depts are pretty swamped with trying to deal with the backlog caused by Covid, but a gastroenterologist who specialises in IBD should talk through your results.

Quincy, you are correct that proctitis just means 'inflammation of the rectum' which of itself doesn't establish cause, with there being a number of causes for proctitis including:

What I was saying to Candoolili is that in the UK gastros tend to say 'proctitis' to mean proctitis caused by IBD rather than being specific.

The Crohns and Colitis UK link I referenced was to demonstrate that they also use 'proctitis' to mean proctitis caused by IBD. On their website they state: "The inflammation usually begins in the rectum and lower colon, but it may affect the entire colon. If Colitis only affects the rectum, it is called proctitis."

My intention was not to imply you were incorrect, but to point out to the OP that in the UK at least gastros don't tend to say ulcerative proctitis even when they mean ulcerative proctitis (and perhaps should say ulcerative proctitis).
