Greetings my fellow UC sufferers.

I have been in a flare since Christmas. previously i had two miracle years on Remicade with no trouble at all. Around October 2020 i started to come up in bruises all over that looked as though id been in a car crash. With the bruises came a terribly itchy rash all over. I went straight to the GP and she was almost certain it was a delayed reaction to Remicide in which i agreed as my flaring symptoms started to follow suit. I consulted with my GI who literally would not entertain this theory. The rash and bruising continued to excel along with my flare and my infusion was soon to be scheduled and i rang and practically begged my GI to run bloods for potential antibodies, finally he took me up and the day prior to my infusion i had ti run around getting bloods hoping they would be ready prior to infusion. They came back a week later that i indeed had built antibodies and my levels of Remicide low.

Ive since been switched to another biologic called Simponi, it has been a very slow burn with this medication and im yet to be in full remission, i've lost both my jobs due to my wheels falling off with this retched flare. i was also put on pentasa suppositories that made me worse. Ive had pentasa sups before and the same result so i was switched to salafalk sups with no issue.

Can i get some insight into this Simponi? Im on 2 injections every 4 weeks.

Indigo69, I don't think anyone in this forum is currently on Simponi, I haven't seen it mentioned. You can use the search feature at the top right, type in Simponi & UC & you will find some older threads. It looks those members varied on how they reacted to it. If you have been in a flare for quite some time it may take you a little longer.

In the meantime, I would be looking for a new gi, you need one that listens to his/her patients. You still have options for other meds. I am not sure where you are located.

Hi Indigo69,

I am new to this forum but I have been on Simponi since summer of 2015. I currently take 1 injection every 14 days. It took me a little while to get into remission, but Simponi has been great for me. I really haven't had any side effects from it and I hope to continue taking it for as long as I can.

I'd be happy to attempt to answer any questions!

I have been on Simponi since 2017. I started it after a hospitalization for a fairly bad flare. It had a big role in pulling me out of that flare as well as keeping me from having another for the last four years. I have not had any side effects at all.
I enrolled in the Janssen Carepath savings program and only pay a five dollar copay per month.
I no longer take any other medications for UC except for the Simponi.
I'm a big fan.

GIbuddy and madabs -- had you tried any other biologics before you went on Simponi?

Prior to Simponi, I had only used mesalamines as well as a short very uncomfortable stint on 6mp.

I was on Simponi for about 2 years. I did ok. Never really was in total remission. Was on it right after Humira. Worth the try. Had really no side effects.
