Hi all,
We all have an unspoken bond of shared suffering. I will never, in my life, forget the trials that I experienced while I was very sick with this illness, and I feel for everyone here that is going through this. I have learned more about controlling my symptoms here than from any doctor, so I wish to return the favor and share what worked for me.
I was diagnosed with moderate left-sided colitis in 2005 while in the military. I think it was sparked off by the bad water (parasites) I drank and follow-on treatments of antibiotics. After a few years of denial, misunderstanding, and prednisone hell, I settled down with my prescribed azathioprine, VSL 3 probiotics, and began trying different elimination diets. There were some decent improvements, but it wasn't until about 5 or 6 years ago that I saw some real improvement, when I cut out all sugars/processed carbs and started keeping a food journal.
Eventually, I eliminated almost all carbohydrates on kind of a keto-carnivore diet, where I mostly just eat meat and fats. For the last 3 years, I have been fasting, (eating/drinking nothing but water) from 6pm until noon the next day, and I eat twice in that six hour period.
**(If you try any large change to your diet, especially switching from carbs to carnivore, expect some diarrhea while your microbiome switches over) Dr. Rhonda Patrick details this in some podcasts
I also eat 2 visbiome probiotics before every meal, I take half a dropper of cbd oil before every meal, I take 150mg of azathioprine once daily, and a heaping tbs of psyllium seed powder in water after my last meal.
I know that everyone is different and that different things work for different people, but I would highly recommend giving intermittent fasting and the carnivore diet a try if you haven't had luck with anything else. At the very least, it gives your gut a rest, and it is low glycemic and calorie restrictive, so it should help control inflammation.
Hopefully this helps someone! I know nothing is a cure-all, but maybe some of you can find some help with this. Much love!
