Budesonide...

Have you been vaccinated against Covid19? If not then that makes the case stronger for taking budesonide since that is proven to combat the virus.

I've taken it a lot. You are unlikely to have any side effects if it's a normal 8-week course of it. Is your doctor not putting you on any maintenance/long-term medications? Typically, budesonide is not used long term (unless you're like me and nothing else has been working or it's used as a bridge for biologics or something else to kick in). Studies showed no side effects more than placebo in budesonide, even up to a year. I got a bunch of stretch marks but my skin may have been messed up from years of on and off prednisone and it just happened to start showing up when I went on the Uceris. I will never know for sure. I wouldn't worry about it at all if I were you.

No offense to you IAC, but budesonide pills do not combat coronavirus. You may be thinking of inhaled budesonide (an inhaler) used as a treatment for covid.

That sounds like a good plan. Were you not able to take mesalamine or did it not work? I personally think budesonide is one of the safest meds we have. I hope it helps you! I get super nervous trying any new medicine so I totally understand. Oh, also, it may take 1-2 weeks to work, just FYI.

Hi, had ZERO luck with this at the start of a flare, went right to pred after 2 weeks, but mine turned out to be a really horrible flare. It is a different class than pred, with less side effects so good luck. I had not side effects at all but it just didn't even touch the flare symptoms at all.

Very glad it’s working for you with no side effects! I just had to stop taking it after only three weeks because it gave me near-constant headaches. Was really affecting my ability to accomplish anything. I’m really hoping I don’t go back into the flare.

Budesonide, imo, is pred-lite, which in many respects, is a good thing - slower to act, but way less likely to cause side-effects - it's a good bridge to another med -

Hopefully it will start working. Thought it had, today is another story. Side effects are minimal. Slight headache. It’s not a quick fix. I turned down Prednisone. Starting Stelara on Sept 3 . Just took the last Entyvio on Friday.
It helps to know it doesn’t work right away. Thanks for the information 👍

Faithmac, I am surprised they are making you wait to start Stelera. I went from Enyvio to Humira with no wait at all .. I think I started Humira 2 weeks after my last Entyvio infusion. Entyvio isn't systemic so doesn't seem like any reason to wait.

But .. while you are waiting now might be the best time for the vaccine since you aren't on anything that suppresses your entire immune system, It would give you the best window to develop a good level of antibodies. Ask you doc about that when you see her this week.

I’d like to start Stelera now! Not sure how I can push the time up. I have the infusion at a cancer infusion center. Going to let them do the the auto injections too. I like the idea they do blood work every time I’m there. I can do them myself , did humira and Simponi with no problem. Wondering who I can call to move it sooner. It’s kind of complicated how the order was received. Reg GI sent it to the infusion center to fill and do the insurance. As of August 3 I’ll be dealing with a GI specialist. I guess I can ask him.

Was feeling a little better till that second injection. That’s when all the trouble got worse. Had to take it now. Time between injections was almost up. The accident really screwed me up. Now the big C! After this I’m not too keen except for the immune suppression from Stelara. I had no intentions of taking the vaccine. Friends and family are shaming me into it.
