Flowers -- will be interesting to see your tests in the Hopkins study. In the UNC Prevent Covid newsletter that I got on 8/18 it said that they will be asking questions on their next survey about whether we got the 3rd dose

Can you get the Shingrix and the Covid booster at the same time? I had shingles last November....awful....and have been told to get that vaccine too. But they didn't say if I should do both or separate them out. Hmmm.

Clo - not sure, but the advice I got with my TBE vaccine was to keep 2 weeks gap between taking that and my covid shots. The doctor said normally they administer different vaccines together all the time, but since the covid vaccine is new they prefer to leave the 2 week window in case of side effects: if you would take the shots together and have side effects, then you wouldn't know which vaccine was responsible. That advice may change in the coming months when the side effect profile of the covid shots is better established.

Re: shringrix and covid vaccines — my husband got his covid vaccine 2 weeks after his shingrix 2nd. But he did not disclose that at the covid vaccination site.

My daughter-in-law’s mother told them when she got her covid vaccine that she’d had her shingrix 2 weeks before and they refused her shot and told her to come back after 4 weeks.

My husband had searched for info and there was no consensus on what to do. Some said it might interfere with antibody response and others said it wouldn’t.

I would say to be safe to spread them out

I was told by Publix pharmacy I could get both at the same time. I chose to wait a week. The shingles is a 2 vax. Just had both. Had a bad reaction to the second shingles. Nothing from the Covid

I am sorry you felt sick. Hopefully you are feeling better.

May I ask what your reactions were and on a scale of 1 to 10 how bad it was? Did you have a fever, chills, nausea, headache, sore arm....stuff like that? Did you have any reactions at all to the first two?

I don't get my booster til October 12th. I am apprehensive yet hopeful.

If you mean me, I was tired, had a slightly elevated temperature that kept rising and a headache. Not at all bad but when I'm tired everything is the worst haha I feel better today minus the sore arm. That seems to have gotten worse but will be over by tomorrow I'm sure

Not bad at all. Just tired and took a few naps the next day. Arm was a little sore and the lymph node in my armpit was sore. Maybe a little brain fog. Nothing significant.

I woke up on Tuesday and felt great.

Anybody else on here have any family members refusing to get the booster?

My siblings are refusing. They had the 2 series vaccines and now they are balking at getting the boosters. I am so scared for them. I just want them to be safe...and if they don't get the booster I am going to have to avoid them. (Not that we get together now...more like park our cars 15 feet away, get out with a mask and talk to one another from 10 to 15 feet away. And that's only happened once since the pandemic started...months and months ago.)

I am just so disappointed ☹️.

And did you read about Israel going to 4 shots in the near future??? Or did I misunderstand?

CLO: my brother is not getting the vaccine. He already got Covid last year. I just had lunch with him a few weeks ago. He still does not want to get the vaccine.

I’ve had doctors give me varying advice regarding the booster shot after my breakthrough covid infection several weeks ago. My GI said to wait 8 weeks. I still can’t taste or smell 4 weeks later and I’m afraid to get the 3rd shot. If anyone gets info from their docs about this please post.

Countess I'm not a medical doctor but I'd think with 2 vaccines and a just-recovered/recovering covid infection, your antibodies should be pretty high right now so there is no urgency to get a booster shot. In your situation I'd wait at least a couple of months, maybe even 3 or 4 months.

What exactly are you afraid of? The loss of smell is from the virus attacking the nervous system which a vaccine doesn't do.

@Clo, if your family members had the Moderna vaccines they may be waiting on the FDA to approve the Moderna booster. The FDA announced last Thursday that the Moderna vaccine has not been approved for the booster yet because they do not have enough data. The only vaccine booster approved is Pfizer. My cardiologist told me over a week ago to wait until the FDA has approved Moderna & to wait 8 months to get it.

I’m not afraid of the vaccine but of the reaction due to the antibodies. I agree that I am superwoman right now and should wait. Also haven’t I had enough covid for awhile lol?? I was surprised that my GI said 8 weeks.

Ah yes I see what you mean. My colleague who had covid first, then the 2 vaccines, said she was sick for 3 days post vaccine.

I agree, I would wait more than 8 weeks... also because the later you take the shot the longer you are likely to be protected against re-infection.

You are right about Moderna. I spent the whole day calling pharmacist. They refuse to mix vaccines--even with a doctor's note--and a couple if them got very snippy and informed me Moderna was not approved yet. (I was a non responder to Pfizer)

I have to wait til Oct 12th to get my booster. GI recommended at least 5 weeks after my Remicade infusion...then wait another 5 weeks to get the next infusion. I go in tomorrow for my infusion....so crossing my fingers I don't catch anything during my 7 hour infusion. (They run it slow plus I am now getting saline before and after infusion because of my kidneys )

Today I picked up groceries...and no one was wearing a mask. I am so freaked out....

My friend told me moderna has 3x the dose as in pfizer. That would explain why people seem to get stronger side effects from it...
