Has anyone tried the antibiotic therapy. Starting tomorrow I’ll be taking Tinidazole, fosfomcycin,rifaximin and 10,iu Vit D. Clinical trials with crohns patients put all in remission.

Antibiotics can make me flare. I'm on them at the moment. Probiotics have provided me with some support. I wonder what bacteria they want to kill if doing a therapy?

They do target specific bacteria. These were made at a compounding pharmacy. The Dr is with Dr Barody in Sydney.

I try to maintain remission thru diet and supplements but every once in a while I will experience a flare that can only be snuffed out with antibiotics. Do you have any information about those clinical trials or the doctor who is prescribing those antibiotics?

I tried to find the study in that link & couldn't find it. You have mentioned crohns here & in the crohns forum, which one do you have, crohns or UC, it's a little confusing.

Susie -- you have too click on Show More Detail and then click on the link for the full study. From what I can tell the study with the antibiotic treatment was with 8 patients over several years.

Theanxiousaries -- hope it works for you. I sorta remember another member (UB Tough) who was on some sort of antibiotic therapy a couple years ago that really messed her up. I don't remember all the details but if you do a search on the forum, you might be able to find it.

I scrolled some more on that link and found another paper where they followed 12 patients. Neither of the papers were clinical trials as far as I can tell.

The link is Dr BOrody's ORCID page which basically gives a list of a person's publications and - depending on what fields they've filled in - a brief CV. e.g. you can use it to show your grants and institutions where you've worked.

Why is it confusing? The reason I posted in the crohns forum is because the antibiotic study was done with crohns patients but obviously as with a lot of things what works for crohns can work ibd. They’re both inflammatory bowel diseases

Thankyou I’m very cautious of this as my condition is still very mild. My calprotectin came back yesterday at 260. It was 4000 when he suggested the antibiotics so I’m waiting to hear back before I start. He’s started me on a low dose. This is based on evidence that MAP causes ibd. The only study I came across was with the eight crohns patients. I’m assuming these were done at the Center for digestive disease.

I did triple therapy years ago for my UC under the guidance of an infectious disease doctor. It didn't work and made my UC 10x worse.

Theanxiousaries - crohns and ulcerative colitis are both forms of ibd. I think you might be using ibd to mean ulcerative colitis (please correct me if I'm wrong) and hence susie's confusion.

It's possible to have ibd and not know whether it is crohn's or ulcerative colitis, and it's possible to have colitis (bowel inflammation) as part of crohns disease, distinct from ulcerative colitis. Do you have a definite diagnosis of ulcerative colitis or is it indeterminate ibd?
