Does anyone develop a cough with a flare

Never had a cough that I know of from a flare. I did have a cough from from blood pressure meds. Is there any other meds or supplements that you are taking?

How bad is your cough?

It appears it’s causing silent reflux (hence the cough) when I have bad days the cough is worst. When my stomach settles the cough is gone

I had a bad cough that was chronic and getting worse and once I was diagnosed with silent acid reflux and started ppis the cough went away. I hate being on the ppis, but the last time I tried to slowly get off of them the cough came back with a vengeance and the med I had been on wouldn't work anymore. Now I am trying to slowly wean down to a couple times a week (last time I had stopped completely). Just started with my slow taper by skipping 1 day. My plan is to do this for a month and then start skipping 2 days, etc. I know the risks of the ppi's but I absolutely have no quality of life with that cough so I take them.

But this doesn't seem to be associated with flaring. It's just silent reflux is a chronic condition. I've read loads of things about how to treat it -- from diet, to raising the head of the bed, lots of natural "remedies", to surgical interventions. Diet/home remedies and raising the bed didn't do anything, and I am not willing to have surgery so I stay on the med.

Same here. I was having epic burning in my throat — worse than anything I’ve ever experienced. Endoscopy showed some ulcers on my esophagus so I went in the ppi’s and have no intention of stopping now. Not worth it.

FlowersGal, did you have problem swallowing and eating with ulcers on your esophagus? I am having an enormous burning under my left breast and a bad sore/burning throat. My fear is of having ulcers on esophagus but my GI said I would have difficulty to swallow and difficulty for food going down.

I don’t think they were that bad yet. So no I don’t recall having trouble swallowing. But the burning was on a nuclear scale that I couldn’t live with. And it was going to damage my esophagus for sure. No problems since I went on Prilosec. Initially the dr was going to have me try stopping after a month but I never did because the relief was too great.

FlowersGal, have you tried h2 blocker like famotidine? I am curious if others had a success with h2 blocker instead of ppi.

I did try some of those but they didn’t help nearly as much as the prescription stuff.
