0k to take Lialda while on Entyvio?

I started entyvio infusions the end of April. I noticed improvement in my ulcerative colitis symptoms not long after, and was very pleased . With my doctors assistance I gradually weaned myself from my previous medications (Uceris, Lialda, Canasa suppositories ) By the end of July my symptoms started returning and in many ways became worse (frequent urgency, abdominal discomfort almost all of the time, and
bleeding. After a colonoscopy several weeks ago ( which showed mildly active and moderately active colitis) my gastroenterologist prescribed uceris which helped somewhat but not as much as in the past). I am disappointed to say the least and dealing at times with the fear I won’t get to the toilet in time Is the Worst! Im now wondering if my symptoms are due to my going off the Lialda (4 pills a day) and /or canasa suppositories nightly . Do any of you who are on entyvio also take these other medications? Thank you!

Seems there is a direct causation between stopping lialda and symptom return. I stayed on my mesalamine for 2-3 years after starting entyvio. My opinion would be you went off it too early It takes a long while for the gut to heal. After I was in symptomatic remission at about month 4, a colonoscopy showed microscopic inflammation still. The next one 6-8 months later showed all clear.

If I were you I’d restart the Canasa at the very least and see if that helps. If it reduces symptoms then I think I would try restarting the lialda.

I suggest the mesalamine retention enemas, rather than the suppositories, and the Lialda.

If you're experiencing urgency it would seem that your rectum is inflamed: no wonder you feel anxious about getting to the toilet in time. In addition to mesalamine enemas you could get TENA protective underwear or pads to put on before leaving home, to relieve your worries about possible leaking. Sorry to read that you're having this problem despite Entyvio treatment, but proctitis can be very persistent-- so you're not alone with this issue. Try to stay positive though it's a frustrating one to deal with. / Old Hat (40+ yrs with left-sided UC; in remission taking Colazal)
