Hi had the 3 step jpouch procedure done in 2018/2019 and had a redo of the 3 steps in 2021. Takedown was on 12/15/2021. The first procedures were all done laprascopically. The second time they did it openly. I had a total of 4 stomas. They were able to keep the first jpouch and really the only bowel I lost was my rectal cuff which was left too long.
That's my recap. Currently at home adjusting and recovering. I can already tell a difference to the first time. I'm able to pass gas over the toilet, which was impossible before. I no longer cramp much when I eat except when it's too gassy. I solve this with beano and gas-x. I'm able to sleep through the night however I stop eating early. I currently only eat one meal per day. I'm simply not hungry. I have not had an accident. I do have a little leakage at night sometimes. All in all I'm very happy I decided to have the jpouch redo. They found out that not only was the rectal cuff too long, my jpouch was also twisted. Which was causing me pain. I hope that 2022 will be lots of healing and finally being normal again. It'll be a new normal but a normal regardless.
You'll hear a lot of people recommend going with an extremely experienced CR surgeon who has done many hundreds or thousands of pouches, this is the reason why. There are still no guarantees with surgeries and healthcare.
I am glad that you finally had a good outcome.
