Stelara Loading Dose: What to Expect?

Hey there,

Today I have my first taste of Stelara and was wondering what to expect? I'm anxious about a reaction but know it's unlikely. I tolerated Inflectra well but unfortunately it stopped working. Is there anything people noticed that was strange during/after loading dose? I'm in a pretty bad flare right now and was curious what the general timeline is for Stelara to start working (if it works at all). My GI is confident it will help so here's to hoping. Any insight is appreciated.

Hi DavidEA,

I hope you're feeling well today after your first dose. The only side effect I got from the loading dose was palmar-plantar psoriasis. It was very itchy and the skin peeled off the base of my feet and palms.

I've had psoriasis since childhood so I think I'm probably more genetically predisposed to this particular side effect, and I didn't get it from the second dose. I've just had the 3rd dose last Tuesday so will see what happens.

Stelara is working so far in that I'm in remission, so all good regarding the UC. It has also kept my joint pains under control.

After RyanC posted to ask if anyone else was experiencing depression, fatigue and / or irritability after a Stelara dose I'm going to monitor whether I'm getting any of these symptoms, with my next dose. I did feel pretty tired and irritable after the dose I had last Tuesday but there's a lot happening in my life right now so I won't know if it's related to Stelara or not till I've had a few more doses.

Other than that I feel fine. I had a 2nd bout of Covid while on Stelara and was tired and resting in bed for a few days, but otherwise well.

I experienced no side effects whatsoever with the Stelara loading dose.

I got a rash called tinea versicolor. Harmless but odd. Finally got it treated by a dermatologist and it never came back. Other than that, Stelara did nothing...negative or positive. Waste of my time. Good luck.
