signs of imuran failing or becoming allergic?

Hi,

For those who had issues with imuran, after long periods of it working for you, how did you notice that it was giving you problems or that you were becoming allergic?

I wasn't on it long enough for it to work, After about a month my liver enzymes went very high and I stopped taking it. I felt nauseous the entire time I was on it.

What symptoms are you having? Has your weight changed that would trigger a change a dosage?

I've put on about 30lbs over last 2 years...i had been in remission and things were so good for me i was just enjoying life...i did not know that imuran was weight dozed...cld the extra 30 lbs be causing a difference?

Yes, it's dosed by weight for adults. Ask your doctor and mention the weight gain.

Yes, imuran is dosed at 2.0 to 2.5 milligrams per kilogram of patient body weight for UC. So, a 70 kilogram patient would be dosed at a daily 140 to 175 mgs of imuran. Imuran pills are typically 50mgs, so you might take 3 pills or 3.5 pills daily.

If you've significantly gained or lost weight, ask your gasteroenterologist if it's necessary to adjust your imuran dosage.

Allergic reactions to imuran are usually extreme nausea. If your blood test results go out of range then they might discontinue imuran or adjust the dosage.

I say get your liver enzymes checked, but also talk to your doctor about changing your dosage! I take 100 mg a day and my weight varies between 98-105 pounds. I tried 75 mg a day after 2 years but started getting mild symptoms again and went back up to 100. So far so good!

thats interesting Momto2boys....how soon when u dropped down and how soon when you moved back up did you notice symptoms worsening / improving?

I noticed worsening symptoms around 4 months after dropping down to 75 mg. It took around 6-8 weeks after going up to 100 again for everything to calm down.
