Has anyone used Budesonide and it worked well without drastic side effects as prednisone? I have c-diff and am on Vancomycin which is working well but Dr. thinks I need help because my inflammation results were so high. I,m really afraid of steroids and this all came from taking azithromycin.(at least for me) Everytime I take antibiotics I end up in a flare, only this time it,s worse. I had c-diff about 12 yrs ago only I took Flagl.

Budesonide is less absorbed systemically than prednisone. I was on a two-month course of Budesonide this year and had very few if any side effects--and I'm fairly sensitive to drugs. I would definitely try it again ahead of prednisone in the future, personally, although I've heard it doesn't work as well for some people. It's also much more expensive.
Have you asked about the probiotic (yeast) Florastor? I've heard it can be very helpful for c diff too.
Good luck.

Thank you so much for your reply. I will try it again. I was going to wait a few more days in case I felt a whole lot better and perhaps didn't need it. I am taking Florastor. I take 2 in the am and only 1 at night. I wonder if I should reverse that because it seems as soon as i wake up I get that urgency. I was afraid to take it with the Vancomycin, but they advertise that it is fine to do so. I've been on Vancomycin , this is my sixth day and i have a 2 week prescription.

You can try 5-ASAs but their efficacy depends on how bad your flare is. If your UC is mild, 5-ASAs can work. If it's moderate to severe, then they usually couple it with steroids. There are not many straight up anti-inflammatory options in conventional medicine. Usually biologics are the go-to for moderate to severe UC so that steroids can be abandoned.
In my opinion it's uncommon these days for immune suppressants like azathioprine to be used with steroids. They usually try to transition you from steroids to biologics, and if biologics aren't fully effective, then they will introduce other immune suppression.
You can try budesonide if you can afford it (it's more expensive than prednisone). If your UC is also very localized to the rectum, that gives you more options as far as rectal treatments go (enemas and suppositories).

Not in my experience since Budesonide is confined to the intestinal tract. In contrast I had a very bad experience being on Prednisone for a couple of months up to 40Mg for a number of weeks. I started going into a diabetic state from it. Had to go on insulin for about 2 1/2 weeks to start getting me back to normal. Prednisone can be a wonder drug for short periods of time. Budesonide has helped me numerous times with flare ups without complications. Tapering off it isn't much fun, same as Prednisone.

I have been on Entyvio for almost two years. Worked pretty well up until the past six months. I dont know if this flare is from the antibiotic or from the infection. I am going to check out that Dr. Pravda that you mentioned. He really seemed to help you. This disease is so awful. Not the same thing works for everyone, and its trial and error, but alot of suffering going thru that while youre trying to figure out what works. I really resisted going on bio-logics for a long time.
I was on Lialda and as soon as it stopped working they wanted me on Biologics. I just wish there was a way to stop flare ups for good. Thank you...

No, it won't be anything as bad as prednisone. I took it for a year.
