I answered in your other thread with a suggestion for uceris foam. Are you on mesalamine? It was never very helpful for me but it works very well for a lot of peoples disease. The first entry in the forum on “resources” lists quite a few drugs commonly prescribed.

I have used Pepto for diarrhea when I had nothing else on hand, but you will find some say don't because of the aluminum in it. My main go to is Imodium, I keep it on hand at all times. You will not become dependent on it, once the Entyvio kicks in & you head towards remission the diarrhea should stop. I had horrendous diarrhea for over 2 years & was practically house bound, I got to the point of not eating & my gi was really concerned. I was on Lomotil for quite some time.

What is the location extent of your UC? Is the budesonide oral or rectal?

I'm going to touch on a few issues, mesalamine in particular.
You were diagnosed in 2021...what were your symptoms and for how long?
Many of us go through a period of time with weightloss from having diarrhea, change in diet, ...and as a delayed response, the hair growth and shedding cycles are interrupted. Mesalamine can be blamed for hairloss, where it isn't actually the actual cause.

I do, however, suggest you try it...at least the enemas. You could start with a lower dosage and increase...depending where you live. Are you in US?

I would question why you have diarrhea in the first place....I wouldn't depend on the pepto...(it is a salicylate as well as the mesalamine)...i suggest actual treatment for the inflammation if that's the cause.

Thanks to you both. I’m currently on oral Budesonide. My first symptoms were uncontrollable diarrhea, no blood. Was dealing with elderly Mom’s cancer and delayed seeking help for almost a year. Went for colonoscopy (Aug. 21) and found the UC (pan).

I’ve wondered if I were too quick to blame the Mesalamine for the hair loss in that my diet has been drastically changed. Sure I’m not getting enough nutrients or protein. I am in the US. I’ll see the nurse practitioner next month.

I take both Pepto Bismal and Imodium. I have an ostomy so I have noticed that when I start to go more often if I eat bagels, bananas or marshmellows that helps slow things down. Applesauce, sugary juices or drinks speed things up.

Hair loss can come from emotional and the physical stress on your body due to being sick.

I take Pepto as needed. It works well for me.

If it is from medication or stress then your hair should all grow back after you get into remission.

You could also try Rogain to regrow your hair, I think Costco has the generic version for about $20 for a 6-month supply.

Last night and today have been wonderful and symptom-free! I needed this day! No word from Nurse re: my questions, but I will Monday, I’m sure.

Who knows what happened to improve the situation? I’m so thankful, regardless. Maybe the multi doses of Pepto finally kicked in. Whew!
