Any of the senior members in here see any problem with trying out FMT while on inflectra/remicade?
I’m on inflectra now, second dose just went in. I have done some decent readings on FMT on here and outside of here and to me there’s nothing to lose. Currently my bleeding has stopped. Mucus is in high quantity.
Also, i want to use wife’s poop but dont want to wait for her to test it for parasites and infections. I also have a 3 year-old toddler but the wife option seems better to me.

Combining treatments shouldn't be a problem from a safety point of view but I would give the inflectra a few months before adding something new to the mix. If you do an FMT now and you go into remission you'll have no idea if it was the inflectra or poop helping you (especially as it sounds like inflectra might already be helping).

Agree with poopydoop -- doing FMT along with inflectra should be safe, but since you seem to already be responding to inflectra not sure it would be a good idea to to the FMT now. There's no way you could tell what was working. Why do you want to do this now when you have only had 2 doses of inflectra and have had a response?
Also, I would be very cautious about
using stool from someone who wasn't tested. Your wife may be healthily living with some bacteria that cause zero issues for her but could wreak havoc in your system. Best to have her tested before attempting this.

thank you for the feedback. I have seen positive results from inflectra but very slow and unsteady and as soon as it was time for the next dose I started going backwards very fast so makes me worry that this is not a long lasting solution for me. And not to mention inflectra is one of the biggest guns in the fight against uc. and whether it works for me or not the risks for side effects are huge, when FMT appears to be a safe try.
Seeing how slowly inflectra is working and the way it is working, I believe I would be able to tell if FMT nipped it in the bud, but that is a whole nother discussion I agree.
So the question really is: have you heard or seen anyone that was negatively affected by FMT?
Thank you CCinPA, I will definitely test any person's poop I plan on using for FMT. Very valid argument.

There is evidence that combining FMT with a low sulphur diet increases the effectiveness and durability.

Probiotics at studied doses with low sulphur diet may provide similar benefits.

Expecting a significant change with one dose under the belt is far too soon. Typically once the loading doses are completed, bit by bit the improvements are seen. I was on Remicade & it took me a good 6 months to really tell I was responding well. As long as a person doesn't go backwards that's a good sign. From what you have written here you've had some response to your first dose.
I'm not going to get into the FMT thing, if you've done much reading in this forum if they worked so well people wouldn't be on medication to manage their disease.
I checked out waxmoth's link, the title says "cure for ulcerative colitis", don't get sucked into that rabbit hole.

Thanks Susie, appreciate your feedback, one main thing I try to wrap my head around is I was on two super strong antibiotics for two straight weeks, both antibiotics at the same time. I can’t help but think how bad they have wiped out my gut flora. and gaining that back is nothing but trial and error, and considering my limited diet, the chances of me getting back a functional gut flora appear very slim to me.
I do hope that Remicade will allow me to introduce more foods to my diet back. And help with the gut flora in the long run.
The FMT article about
low sulfur diet is interesting. I believe that study is not measuring the unintended benefits of while getting on a low sulfur diet you are essentially going on a low meat, low dairy diet, which has shown to help with uc. But yes we have to take everything with a grain of salt.

What type of infection did you have that required two antibiotics & how long ago was it? You may want to look at Quincy's signature line, she has some good information listed about
this.
What kind of symptoms are you having now? Instead of trying to eat 3 regular meals a day, perhaps consider several small meals instead. If it's been awhile since being on antibiotics you need to eat as healthy as you can to promote healing. Eat chicken & fish, you need protein too.
Take care.
