that is a good story
do people find it the case that getting to remission is much much harder than staying in remission? seems to be the case with so many i read about here,,,wonder ,why that is
Charlie, I am one who finds it harder to get to remission. Once I am in a good solid remission, I (thus far in my UC journey) find it easier to stay in it. My theory is, while I am struggling to get to remission, even when things are starting to look good, the state of my bowels are still quite fragile so anything (like what exactly, I don't know) can tip things to the flare side. When I am in the midst of remission, things are less fragile and can withstand... a bit of whatever.
That's quite an unscientific explanation. But as an example, I don't consume things I know are hard on my digestive system- such as alcohol and raw vegetables - when I am in a flare. It can exacerbate the symptoms I am experiencing. But in a good solid remission, I eat raw vegetables daily, and can consume alcohol occasionally.
In my mind, I think of it like a rash on my face. When there are
open wounds, you wouldn't want anything to touch your skin at all. Not even a soft cloth. As it heals over, you can brush it with a soft cloth, or maybe some healing lotion, but you wouldn't use a sugar scrub or even scratch an itch with your fingers or the scabs will
open and bleed again and you have to wait for it to heal over again. When it is completely healed? You can scratch, you can scrub, all is good!
